This challenge is such a good learning experience. With each effort I am able to identify something to work on with the next attempt. I am very happy with the outcome of this painting of Maxx but I have used the paint more like watercolors. In my next painting I want to take advantage of the richness of oils with a thicker heavier application.
I previously identified this pup as belonging to my son’s college friend, but I was wrong. This is Bess who belongs to an old HS friend. Bess was a particular challenge because the photo was not in sharp focus and she is an all black dog, but I just loved the pose too much not to give it a try. I have come to accept that the black dogs I paint will actually be blue or purple dogs. Would love to hear from others who have had success painting black dogs, there are a few more in my thirty-day lineup!
Here we go, day one of the thirty-day challenge. All my paintings will be in oil on a 6" x 6" canvas.
Thanks to everyone who sent photos. I will not run out of subjects! I found this sweet dog on Martha's Vineyard and knew he would be fun to paint. You may see him again when I need an 'easy' subject.
